If you are shopping around for a guidebook, do check out "The New Father".
This book has a month-to-month guide to the first year of the baby's life.
We borrowed this book from a friend but you should be able to find the book sold at the bookstores.
I have done a cursory flip through the book and it looks very interesting. According to our friend, he and his wife both used the book (even though the book appears to have been written for new fathers) because it is informative without being a situation of "information overload".
